WGO Awarded Grant by NEA
(Wichita – May 6, 2013) Wichita Grand Opera is pleased to be one of just four Kansas organizations to receive a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts this April. Wichita Grand Opera’s proposal was one of 1,547 evaluated by the NEA during this round of applications.
Wichita Grand Opera’s grant of $22,500 will go to support WGO’s 2014 production of Rossini’s William Tell. Rossini’s last and greatest work is so rarely performed that WGO’s upcoming production will be just the fourth new U.S. production of the opera in the last 70 years. The last time William Tell appeared at New York’s Metropolitan Opera was in 1938.
NEA Acting Chairman Joan Shikegawa said, “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support these exciting and diverse arts projects that will take place throughout the United States. Whether it is through a focus on education, engagement, or innovation, these projects all contribute to vibrant communities and memorable opportunities for the public to engage with the arts.”
