Wichita Grand Opera Michael Nansel Headshot

Roles

  • Escamillo - "Carmen"
  • Noah - "Noah's Flood"
  • Featured Soloist - "Opera on the Lake: Rock Opera!"

Michael Nansel, one of Wichita Grand Opera’s most admired and beloved stars, returns to the WGO for a trio of performances in the 2018-19 Season, including: Escamillo in Bizet’s fiery Carmen, reprising his role as Mr. Noah in Britten’s fanciful biblical tale Noah’s Flood, which will also be Mr. Nansel’s second time directing for the WGO, and as a featured soloist in this year’s free gift to the community, “Opera on the Lake: Rock Opera!”

In 2017-18, Mr. Nansel tackled a quartet of difficult singing roles, from Mr. Noah in Noah’s Flood in June 2017, to Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Germont in La Traviata,  and a featured soloist at Opera on the Lake – POPera: Simply Irresistible.

Since his debut with Wichita Grand Opera as a member of the Resident Artist Program, Nansel has developed a loyal fanbase in Wichita. As one of Wichita Grand Opera’s most frequent guest-artists, he has delivered outstanding performances in some of opera’s most difficult – and most diverse – leading roles, from romantic leads such as Count Danilo in “The Merry Widow,” to comic leads such as Figaro in “The Barber of Seville,” to dramatic tours-de force like the title role of “Rigoletto” and Iago in “Otello.”
