Julia Child One Act - Opera
  • Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 6:30 Cocktails
  • NICHE WSU Culinary School

The Wichita Grand Opera (WGO) is pleased to produce a performance of Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit!, featuring renowned soprano Emily Pulley as Julia Child paired with a Julia Child inspired meal by Chef Bill Crites the new chef de cuisine at “NICHE”. This event will be the first public performance in the new Wichita State University Culinary Building “NICHE” on April 29th at 6:30 pm.

Guests can expect a unique experience that combines the beauty of opera with the delicious flavors of gourmet cuisine. The event will feature a performance of Bon Appétit!, an opera based on a transcription of Julia Child’s famous PBS show “The French Chef” as she prepares a classic chocolate cake. The show stars world-renowned soprano Emily Pulley accompanied by the WGO wind ensemble and conductor Whitney Reader. The performance will be accompanied by a multi-course dinner prepared by Chef Crites and the students of WSU’s Culinary School, who will be creating a Julia Child-inspired meal. The dessert for this beautiful evening will be the chocolate cake that is sung about in this charming 20-minute opera.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Wichita Grand Opera, so the community is invited to come out and enjoy an evening of fine dining and entertainment, all while supporting a great cause. Tickets for the event are $250.00 which includes a multi-course meal, paired wines, and a chocolate cake as seen prepared by our Julia in Bon Appétit! A portion of ticket purchases is tax-deductible.
